DMACC Women's Basketball team drops 69-67 decision to NECC

The DMACC women's basketball team fell to 5-5 for the season and 0-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 69-67 loss to Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) December 7 at Norfolk, Neb.

 

The Bears, led by 19 points from freshman Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., had a 56-49 advantage heading into the fourth quarter but were outscored 22-11 in the period. DMACC had a 63-57 lead with 40 seconds remaining and led 67-60 with 30 seconds to play but was outscored 9-0 during those final seconds.

 

NECC gained a 68-67 lead on a basket by Sharissa Haas with six seconds left and then took advantage of a DMACC turnover with a free throw from Allison Richards to come away with the win. A short jumper by DMACC freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake was off the mark as time ran out.

 

Freshman Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and Ainley joined Hutchinson in double figures with 17 and 14 points respectively.

 

The Bears shot 42 percent, making 26 of 62 field goal attempts. They were 5-of-21 from three-point range and 10-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC had a 43-26 advantage on the boards with sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City hauling down nine rebounds to lead the Bears. Fuller and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji had eight rebounds apiece and freshman Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., came away with six. Ainley and sophomore Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia had three assists apiece and Franzen led DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will host Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Dec. 10. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. ILCC is 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the ICCAC.
