DMACC SOFTBALL TEAM SWEEPS IOWA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE, 7-4 and 6-5
  • DMACC sophomore Kaylynn Salyars had three hits, including a home run and two doubles, leading DMACC to a 7-4 win in the first game

  • DMACC rallies from four down in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score in the second contest and win it in the eighth inning

  • DMACC sophomore Grace Bailey holds IWCC scoreless for the last three innings to notch the win

 

The DMACC softball team swept both games of a doubleheader against Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) April 18 at the DMACC softball diamond. DMACC won the first game by a 7-4 score and won 6-5 in eight innings in the second contest. 

 

In the first game, DMACC, which is ranked eighth in the nation in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, scored a run in the second inning, five runs in the fourth and rounded out the scoring with a run in the sixth inning.  

 

DMACC had nine hits in the game, led by Muscatine sophomore Kaylynn Salyars, who had three hits, including a home run and two doubles. Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, OK had two hits and two RBI for the Bears.  

 

Freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, WI pitched a complete game for the Bears, notching her ninth win of the season against one loss. She gave up three earned runs and six hits while striking out nine and allowing only one walk.

 

In the second game, the Bears trailed 5-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but rallied to score four runs and tie the game at 5-5 entering extra innings. Grace Bailey, a freshman from Hamilton, held IWCC hitless in the top of the eighth.  The Bears scored in the bottom of the inning to record their 35th win of the season.

 

Both IWCC and DMACC each had eight hits in the second game.  Kearns and Peosta sophomore Sydney Kennedy each had a single and a double for the Bears.  

 

Freshman Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines started the second game and pitched one inning, allowing one earned run, two hits and three walks.  Freshman Kinsley Robinson of Tiffin pitched the next three innings, giving up two earned runs, three hits and one walk. Bailey picked up the win, going four innings without allowing a run and giving up three hits while striking out two.  She is now 2-1 on the season.

  

The DMACC softball team will again play Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 22 and a doubleheader on Sunday, April 23.  All four games will be played at the DMACC softball diamond.  ECC is 4-26 overall and 1-15 in conference play.
