The DMACC softball team improved to 29-7 after sweeping a doubleheader from the William Penn University Junior Varsity (WPUJV) April 6 at the DMACC softball team.

Sophomores Sydney Kennedy of Peosta and Kendal Clark of Humboldt belted home runs in leading the Bears to an 11-0 win in the first game and Clark and freshman Ceara Swanson of Lincoln, Neb., homered in a 13-2 win in the second game. Both games were called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Neither pitcher walked a batter.

DMACC, ranked fifth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, did all of its scoring in two innings, getting seven runs in the first inning and four in the third inning.

Kennedy, sophomore Emily Ades of Boone and freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids had two hits apiece, including a double by Snyder, and Clark topped the Bears in RBIs with three. Kennedy and freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs drove in two runs apiece.

DMACC used another big inning in winning the second game. The Bears took a 3-0 lead in the first and all but put the game out of reach with seven runs in the second inning. They closed out the win with three runs in the third and one in the fourth. WPUJV scored both of its runs in the third inning.

Ades, Kennedy and sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., led DMACC at the plate with two hits apiece. In addition to the home runs by Clark and Swanson, Kearns had a triple, Ades hit two doubles and Kennedy and freshman Campbell Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., had one double apiece.
