DMACC softball team drops doubleheader to Iowa Lakes CC

 

The DMACC softball team fell to 27-7 overall and 8-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after dropping both ends of a doubleheader against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) April 3 at Estherville.

 

The Lakers broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the bottom of the ninth to win the opener, 6-5, and end DMACC's six-game winning streak. They used a four-run fifth inning to win the nightcap by a 7-6 score.

 

Sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., belted a home run and drove in two runs for DMACC in the opener. The Bears took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first but ILCC answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and scored three times in the third to open up a 5-1 lead. DMACC scored a run in the fourth and then tied it with three runs in the top of the seventh.

 

Sophomore Emily Ades of Boone doubled and drove in two runs for DMACC and Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs had one RBI. Sophomore Kendal Clark of Humboldt and freshman Campbell Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., also doubled for the Bears.

 

Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta pitched the first two and a third innings for DMACC, allowing five runs on five hits. She struck out five batters. Freshman Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines went three and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Freshman Grace Bailey of Hamilton went one inning, allowing two hits and striking out one and freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., threw an inning and a third and suffered her first loss of the season. Donahue, who is 7-1, allowed one run on one hit, struck out one and walked two.

 

ILCC broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and then held off a DMACC threat in the seventh to win the second game.

 

Kearns, Madisyn Kelley and sophomore Kaylynn Salyars of Muscatine homered for the Bears and Salyars came away with three RBIs. Kearns and Madisyn Kelley drove in one run apiece. Other extra-base hits included a double by Clark.

 

Freshman Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin fell to 6-3 with the loss. She pitched six innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
