The DMACC softball team ran its record to 23-5 by sweeping a doubleheader from Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SECC) March 28th at Beatrice, Neb.

The Bears, ranked sixth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by scores of 16-0 and 13-0. Both games were called at the end of five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

DMACC collected 26 hits off SECC pitching, 14 in the first game and 12 in the second. Those hits included nine home runs. Sophomore Emily Ades (above) of Boone hit two home runs, and sophomores Kaylynn Salyars of Muscatine and Kendal Clark of Humboldt and freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids homered in the Bears' win in the opener. Clark, Snyder, Salyars and sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., homered in the second game.

The Bears scored in every inning in winning the opener. They tallied six runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth. Ades, Clark and freshman Ceara Swanson of Lincoln, Neb., came away with two hits apiece, and Snyder and Salyars drove in four and three runs, respectively. Other extra-base hits included doubles by Swanson and freshman Kenzie Schon of Carroll.

Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta tossed a two-hitter and improved to 11-2 with the win. She went three innings, struck out seven and walked one. Freshman Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines threw two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

DMACC all but put the second game out of reach with a nine-run first inning. The Bears padded their advantage with two runs in the second and two in the third.

Kearns paced the Bears with three hits, and Ades and Snyder had two hits apiece, including a double by Snyder. Salyars and Snyder drove in three runs apiece and Kearns had a pair of RBIs.

Freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., got the win to stay unbeaten at 6-0. She went three innings, allowing one hit and striking out six batters. Freshman Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin went an inning and two-thirds and struck out two batters.

The DMACC softball team will play the Clarke University Junior Varsity (CUJV) March 30th at Dubuque.
