DMACC men's cross country team earns postseason recognition

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has announced the men's cross country Region XI All-Region Team and the ICCAC All-Conference Team and five members of the DMACC men's cross country team have earned recognition.

 

Freshman Alejandro Bernal of Sibley tops the list by receiving honorable mention recognition on the All-Region Team and being named to the First All-Conference Team. Freshman Jordan King of  Boone was named to the Second All-Conference Team and freshmen Ray Gearhart of Oelwein, Will Thompson of West Des Moines and Zachary Niederklopfer of Des Moines received honorable mention recognition on the All-Conference Team.

 

Bernal was one of the DMACC's most consistent runners this fall, finishing ninth or better in four meets. His top finished was fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Cross Country Championships October 27 where he posted a time of 27 minutes, 23 seconds over the 8K course. Bernal was seventh in the Trent Smith Invitational Sept. 15 at Mason City, ninth in the Grandview Invitational Sept. 23 at Ankeny and eighth in the Indian Hills Invitational Oct. 13 at Ottumwa.

 

King also had a consistent fall, placing in the top 10 in five meets. He was sixth in the Trent Smith Invitational and the Grandview Invitational, seventh in the Indian Hills Invitational, eighth in the Region XI meet and ninth in the Bill Buxton Invitational Aug. 30 at Indianola.

 

Gearhart posted three top 20 finishes in five meets with his best effort coming in the Region XI meet where he finished in 11th place. Gearhart was 13th in the Bill Buxton Invitational and 15th in the Trent Smith Invitational. Gearthart's other two finishes were 21st in the Indian Hills Invitational and 25th in the Grandview Invitational.

 

Thompson turned in a season-best 12th place finishes in the Bill Buxton Invitational and the Region XI meet. He was 13th in the Trent Smith Invitational, 18th in the Grandview Invitational and 15th in the Indian Hills Invitational.

 

Niederklopfer's best performance came in the Trent Smith Invitational where he finished fifth. He was 14th in the Indian Hills Invitational and 10th in the Region XI meet.

 

The DMACC men's cross country team posted four second place finishes during the season with those coming in the Bill Buxton Invitational, Trent Smith Invitational, The Indian Hills Invitational and the Region XI meet. The Bears were fourth in the Grandview Invitational.
