DMACC men's cross country team finished second in Indian Hills Invitational

 

The DMACC men's cross country team came away with a second-place finish in the Indian Hills Invitational October 13 at Ottumwa.

 

Indian Hills Community College (IHCC), the meet host, won the team championship with 24 points and DMACC tallied 62 points in finishing second. Southeaster Community College (SECC) and State Fair Community College (SFCC) tied for third with 84 points.

 

IHCC's Brandon Ford was the individual winning, completing the 8K course in 23 minutes, 40 seconds.

 

DMACC was led by freshmen Jordan King of Boone and Alejandro Bernal of Sibley, who were seventh and eighth respectively. King's time was 26:38.5 and Bernal turned in a time of 26:38.7.

 

Three DMACC freshmen, Zach Niederklopfer of Des Moines, Will Thompson of West Des Moines and Joe Terrones of Marshalltown, also finished in the top 20. Niederklopfer was 14th in 27:00, Thompson was 15th with a time of 27:02 and Terrones placed 18th in 27:24.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshman Ray Gearhart of Oelwein finish 21st and freshman Grant Harrison of Des Moines was 29th. Gearhart's time was 27:36 and Harrison toured the course in 28:05.

 

DMACC sophomore Quinton Kimrey of Adel, freshman Jesse Washington of Parkersburg and sophomore Richard Tingue of Leoganne, Haiti, also ran in the meet. Kimrey was 32nd with a time of 28:17, Washington's time was 30:35, good for 51st place, and Tingue posted a time of 30:47 and finished in 56th place.

 

The DMACC men's cross country team will run in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Championships Oct. 28 at Creston.
