DMACC's Trey Lewis named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball
  • Lewis averaged 19 points a game as the Bears went 2-1 during the week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Trey Lewis the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of November 13 to 19.

 

Lewis is the second member of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Sophomore Angela Winkel of Algona was honored for the week of Nov. 1 to 12.

 

Lewis, a sophomore from Johnston, scored 58 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, dished out 24 assists and had five steals as the Bears went 2-1 during the week. He shot 53 percent from the field, making 19 of 36 field goal attempts, and was a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line.

 

Lewis scored 18 points in an 81-64 win over Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) on Nov. 14, hitting five of nine field goal attempts and making all six of his free throw attempts. He had seven rebounds and nine assists in the win.

 

In a 104-91 win over North Central Missouri College (NCMC) on Nov. 17, Lewis tallied a season-high 30 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists. He was 10-of-16 from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

 

Lewis had 10 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in a 91-85 loss to National Park College (NPC) on Nov. 18. The loss was the first of the season for the Bears after seven consecutive victories.

 

Lewis leads the ICCAC in assists per game with an 8.1 average. He is second in free throw percentage at 92 percent and is fourth in scoring with a 16.8 average.

 

Lewis and Winkel lead the Bears in scoring with 134 points apiece. Lewis is shooting 51 percent from the field, having made 46 of 90 field goal attempts. He is 19-of-54 from three-point range for 35 percent, has made 23 of 25 free throw attempts and has dished out 65 assists. His season also includes 50 rebounds, 12 steals and seven blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team, 8-1 and ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, faces the Grand View University Junior Varsity Nov. 27 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 6 p.m.
