Freshman Jaron Crews of Ankeny led four players in double figures with 24 points as the DMACC men's basketball team took a 92-86 decision from Ellsworth Community College (ECC) January 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

DMACC, ranked 11th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), got 20 points from freshman Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., and freshmen Angelo Winkel of Algona and Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., finished with 18 and 13 points respectively.

 

DMACC improved to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears led at halftime, 45-41.

 

DMACC shot 46 percent in the win, making 32 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-16 from three-point range and 21-of-34 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., had eight rebounds and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jimarius Sneed of Chicago, Ill., and Winkel had seven rebounds apiece as DMACC came away with a 46-35 advantage on the boards. In addition to leading DMACC in scoring, Crews topped the Bears in assists and steals with four each.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Jan. 25 inside the DMACC gymnasium. NIACC is 9-12 overall and 2-6 in the ICCAC. The Bears defeated the Trojans, 92-69, when the two teams played Dec. 3 at Mason City.
