DMACC men's basketball team rolls past William Penn JV, 111-55

Freshman Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., led six players in double figures with 24 points as the DMACC men's basketball team rolled past the William Penn University junior varsity, 111-55, November 28 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

DMACC, ranked 14th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), led 47-30 at halftime and put the game out of reach with a 64-point second half.

 

Freshmen Jaron Crews of Ankeny and Angelo Winkel of Algona, Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jimarius Sneed of Chicago and freshmen Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., and Kwat Abdelkarim of Lincoln, Neb., joined McGee in double figures. Crews scored 16 points, Sneed and Winkel finished with 15 points apiece, Desmond had 14 points and Abdelkarim came away with 11 as the Bears improved to 8-2 for the season. Desmond and Winkel recorded double-doubles with 12 and 10 rebounds respectively.

 

DMACC trailed in the early going, 11-6, but gain a 13-13 tie on a three-point basket by sophomore Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., with 13 minutes, 51 seconds left in the first half. Brown's basket began a 12-0 run that put the Bears ahead 22-13 with 10 minutes, 29 seconds to go in the half. DMACC led by as many as 20 points in the final seconds of the half.

 

The Bears shot 60 percent from the field, hitting 43 of 72 field goal attempts, including 42 of 61 attempts from inside the arc. They were just 1-of-11 from three-point range and 24-of-32 from the free throw line.

 

Desmond and Winkel led DMACC to a 61-31 advantage on the boards. CoSO Jean Francois of Coral Springs, Fla., had eight rebounds and Sneed and freshman Saiveon Williams of Chicago, Ill., finished with six rebounds apiece.

 

Abdelkarim led the Bears in assists with four, Crews came away with a pair of steals and Sneed blocked two shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host Marshalltown Community College (MCC) on Nov. 30. Game time is 6 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. MCC is an NJCAA Division I program. The Tigers are 4-6 for the season.
