DMACC's Chance Key named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Key pitched DMACC to an 11-1 win over Ellsworth Community College
  • Key allowed one run on four hits and struck out eight batters
  • Key is 5-0 this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Chance Key the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball (pitching) for the Week of April 8-14.

 

Key is being recognized for the first time this season and he is one of four members of the DMACC baseball team to have been recognized by the conference this season. Sophomore Camden Kaufman of Waukee was recognized the weeks of March 25 to 31, March 4 to 10 and Jan. 29 to Feb. 4. Dillon Kuehl, a sophomore from Urbandale, was recognized the week of Feb. 26 to March 3 and Eli Lehrman, a sophomore from Anamosa, was recognized for his pitching performances the week of Jan. 29 to Feb 4.

 

Key, a sophomore from Waverly, pitched the Bears to an 11-1 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the second game of a doubleheader April 14 at the DMACC baseball diamond. He scatted four hits and struck out five batters in improving to 5-0 for the season.

 

ECC scored its lone run off Key in the second inning and Key responded by retiring the next 12 batters he faced. Three of the Panthers' four hits off Key came in the sixth inning but he escaped without allowing a run and he capped the win by striking out all three batters he faced in the seventh inning.

 

Key leads the DMACC pitching staff in wins and earned runs with a 1.18 ERA. He has pitched 45 and two-thirds innings, allowing 17 runs, six earned runs, on 42 hits. Key has walked 14 batters, struck out 47 and is averaging 9.26 strikeouts per nine innings. He has also pitched three complete games.
