DMACC's Eli Lehrman named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Lehrman pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball in the Bears' 12-9, 11-inning win over Cloud County Community College
  • Lehrman scattered four hits and struck out three batters
  • Lehrman was on the mound for the last 11 outs of the game

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Eli Lehrman the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball (pitching) for the week of January 29 to February 4.

Lehrman, a sophomore from Anamosa, is one of two members of the DMACC baseball team to be honored by the conference. Camden Kaufman, a sophomore from Waukee, was named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball for the same week.

Lehrman was called on with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning of the Bears' game against Cloud County Community College (CCCC) February 1 at Concordia, Kan. The game was tied at 9-9 at the time and the T-Birds had a runner on base. Lehrman gave up a single to the first batter he faced then got out of the inning on a strikeout and an infield grounder.

Lehrman then pitched the ninth, tenth and 11th innings, scattering three hits, striking out three and keeping CCCC off the scoreboard. DMACC scored three runs in the top of the 11th for a 12-9 lead and Kaufman preserved that advantage in the bottom of the inning to come away with the win.

The DMACC baseball team is idle until Feb. 16 to 18 when the Bears will travel to Texas for games against North Central Texas College, Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) and Dallas College Eastfield.
