Six DMACC baseball players earn postseason honors

Five members of the DMACC baseball team have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 All-Regional Baseball Team.

 

Sophomore Reed Stallman of Alburnett was named to the first team as an infielder.

 

Sophomores Brodie Kresser of Jesup and Joe Husak of Cambridge and freshman Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale were named to the second team, Kresser as an infielder, Husak as a pitcher and Kuehl as an outfielder

 

Freshmen Jai Jensen of Clinton and Kannon Coakley of Maquoketa received honorable mention recognition, Jensen as a pitcher and Coakley as an infielder.

 

Stallman finished the 2023 season with a .317 batting average, a .491 on-base percentage and a .590 slugging percentage. He had 51 hits in 161 at-bats and his hits included 14 doubles and team-leading 10 home runs. He also led the Bears in RBIs with 49, scored 52 runs and stole 11 bases in 11 attempts. Stallman was second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in hit-by-pitchers with 12 and he was walked 40 times, putting him tenth in the conference.

 

Kresser hit .342 with a .397 on-base percentage and a .570 slugging percentage. He had 66 hits in 193 at-bats, including 15 doubles, four triples and seven home runs. Kresser finished the season with 41 RBIs and 51 runs. He also stole 10 bases in 11 attempts.

 

Husak compiled a 6-4 record with a 4.25 earned run average and three complete games. He pitched 65 and two-thirds innings, allowing 47 runs on 81 hits. Thirty-one of the 47 runs allowed by Husak were earned. Husak struck out 52 batters, walked 19 and averaged 7.13 strikeouts per nine innings.

 

Kuehl hit .364 with a .544 on-base percentage and a .712 slugging percentage. He had 43 hits in 118 at-bats, including nine doubles, four triples and eight home runs. Kuehl drove in 37 runs, scored 35 runs and was five-for-five in stolen bases.

 

Jensen was 1-0 for the season with a 2.61 ERA and one save. He pitched 31 innings, allowing ten runs on 29 hits. Nine of the ten runs allowed by Jensen were earned. Jensen struck out 33 batters, walked 11 and averaged 9.58 strikeouts per nine innings.

 

Coakley finished the season with a .342 batting average, a .523 on-base percentage and a .649 slugging percentage. He had 38 hits in 111 at-bats, including five doubles, a triple and nine home runs. Coakley drove in 31 runs and scored 34 runs.

 

The DMACC baseball team finished the season at 31-25. The Bears were 19-14 in the ICCAC, tying for fifth place. They were the No. 6 seed in the NJCAA Region 11 Division II Baseball Tournament and were eliminated from play following back-to-back losses to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC).
