DMACC's Brodie Kresser named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Kresser batted .571 as the Bears won three games during the week
  • Hits included a double and three home runs and he drove in 10 runs
  • Kresser is batting .364 for a .617 slugging percentage

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Brodie Kresser the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball for the week of April 17 to 23.

 

Kresser, a sophomore from Jesup, is the fifth member of the DMACC baseball team to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Freshman Cooper Smith of Johnston, freshman Chance Key of Waverly and sophomore Joe Husak of Cambridge have been honored for their pitching performances and freshman Mitchell Cummins of Chanhassen, Minn., was honored for his hitting. Smith was honored the week of March 27 to April 2; Key the week of March 13 to 19; and Husak, the weeks of Feb. 20 to 26 and Jan. 27 to Feb. 5. Cummins earned the award for the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 5.

 

Kresser hit .571 with a double, three home runs, 10 runs batted in and five runs scored as the Bears wen 3-0 during the week. He had four hits, including a double and a home run, scored three runs and drove in two in a 10-4 win over Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) on April 20. Kresser had just one hit in an 8-3 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the first game of a doubleheader on April 23 and hit two home runs, drove in eight runs and scored twice in a 22-3 win in the second game of the doubleheader on April 23.

 

Kresser is batting .364 with a .617 slugging percentage and a .406 on-base percentage this season. He has 56 hits in 154 at-bats and his hits include 12 doubles, three triples and seven home runs. He has driven in 37 runs, scored 41 runs and stolen five bases in six attempts.

 

Kresser is among the top 15 hitters in the conference in batting average and slugging percentage and is seventh in hits.

 

The DMACC baseball team, 22-21 overall and 11-12 in the ICCAC, faces Southeastern Community College (SECC) in a doubleheader today at West Burlington. SECC is 33-12 overall and 17-6 in conference play. DMACC defeated the Black Hawks 20-10 when the two teams played April 12 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
