DMACC's Mitchell Cummins named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball
  • Cummins batted .600 as the Bears split a four-game series with NOCT
  • Cummins' six hits included three home runs, a double and a triple
  • Cummins drove in nine runs and scored five runs in the series

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Mitchell Cummins the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball for the week of January 30 to February 5.

 

Cummins is one of two DMACC baseball players to be honored by the conference for the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5. Sophomore pitcher Joe Husak was named the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball (pitching).

 

Cummins, a sophomore from Chanhassen, Minn., batted .600 with three home runs and nine runs batted in as the Bears split a season-opening four-game series with Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa (NOCT) Feb. 4 and 5 at Tonkawa, Okla.

 

Cummins walked twice and scored a run as the Bears opened the series with a 6-2 win on Feb. 4. He had two home runs, five RBIs and scored two runs in an 11-2 win in the second game on Feb. 4.

 

Cummins hit a double, drove in a run and scored a run in a 5-3 loss in the first game on Feb. 5 and tripled, homered, scored a run and drove in three runs in a 15-3 loss in the second game on Feb. 5.

 

For the season Cummins is hitting .600 with a .692 on-base percentage and a 1.800 slugging percentage. He leads the Bears in home runs with three and in RBIs with nine. His hits also include a double and a triple and he has scored a team-high five runs.

 

The DMACC baseball team, 2-2 for the season, is idle until Feb. 17 and 18 when the Bears will face North Central Texas College (NCTC) in a four-game series at Gainesville, Texas.
