DMACC Baseball Team Sweeps Iowa Lakes CC

The DMACC baseball team ran its record to 28-13 overall and 14-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) by sweeping a doubleheader from Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) April 19th at the DMACC baseball diamond. 

The games were originally scheduled to be played at Estherville but were moved to Boone because of weather issues in northwest Iowa. DMACC was the visiting team in both games. 

Freshman Jake Brill of Maple, Wis., had three hits, including a double, and freshman Reed Stallman of Alburnett hit a pair of doubles to lead the Bears to their win in the opener. DMACC pulled away from a 1-1 tie with three runs in the top of the fourth and put the game away with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh. 

Freshman Brodie Kresser of Jesup, Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Jake Thilges of Johnston, freshman Sam Holling of Waukesha, Wis., and CoFR Tre Mungin of Omaha, Neb., also doubled in the win. 

CoFR Jackson Stewart of Urbandale went the distance and picked up his fourth victory of the season against two losses. Stewart allowed one run on two hits, struck out nine and walked one. 

Kresser and CoFR Nick Ripa of Papillion, Neb., had two hits apiece for DMACC in the second game. The Bears broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the fifth, one in the top of the seventh and three in the top of the ninth. 

Extra base hits included doubles by Ripa and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jack Luster of Huxley, who drove in a pair of runs. 

CoSO Bret Price, Jr., of Boone pitched the first seven and a third innings and improved to 4-1 with the win. He allowed three runs on four hits, struck out six and walked three. CoSO Cole Kaufman of Waukee went a third of an inning and walked one batter and freshman Brady Latcham of Pekin earned his second save of the season in an inning and a third on the mound. He allowed one run on one hit and struck out one batter. 

The DMACC baseball team will host Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in a nine-inning game April 21st at the DMACC baseball diamond. SWCC is 5-35 overall and 2-18 in the ICCAC. DMACC took a doubleheader from the Spartans April 12th at Creston, winning by scores of 12-9 and 24-3.
