DMACC baseball team drops 12-10 decision to NOCT

 

The DMACC baseball team closed out a five-game road trip to Oklahoma with a 12-10 loss to Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa (NOCT) February 28 at Tonkawa, Okla.

 

The loss was the fourth of the season for the Bears against seven wins. DMACC trailed 10-3 after three innings and 12-3 after seven innings before using a six-run rally in the top of the eighth to close to within 12-9. The Bear added another run in the top of the ninth but got no closer.

 

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jack Luster of Huxley led DMACC with four hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Freshman Mitchell Cummins of Chanhassen, Minn., hit a three-run home run and freshman Cy Patterson of Council Bluffs also drove in three runs.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Jackson Stewart of Urbandale started on the mound for the Bears and suffered the loss. He worked two and a third innings, allowing six runs on three hits. Stewart struck out one and walked four. CoSO Bret Price of Boone threw a third of an inning, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out one batter and freshman Drew Scherbenske of Rapid City, S.D., pitched two and a third innings and allowed one run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one. CoFR Jarrett Novak of Omaha, Neb., worked two innings and allowed one run on two hits. He struck out four and walked two. CoFR Simon Gregersen of Ramsey, Minn., pitched one inning, striking out two and walking one.

 

The DMACC baseball team will travel to Iola, Kan., for doubleheaders against Butler Community College March 4 and 5.
