Real-Deal Scholar Athletes, unity on and off the court, "Family" and winning seasons are some of what Patty Harrison has brought to DMACC in her 27 seasons as head coach of Women's NJCAA Volleyball teams.

In her career as head NJCAA volleyball coach Harrison, also known as Coach P, has built programs that few have attained.

• 454 Wins at Des Moines Area Community College
• Eight Coach of the Year Honors
• Nine NJCAA Tournament Bids
• 16 All-Americans
• Five All Academic Team Selections

Harrison's philosophy has been developed during her coaching career to build and sustain a top ranked program.She gives her student athletes heart, mind, commitment and they return it over and over. "My coaching philosophy stems from a very basic understanding of a solid work ethic and strong fundamental skills", Harrison says. "I believe that you need high expectations of yourself and your team in order to achieve success."

A native of Lohrville, Iowa, Harrison started the Iowa Central volleyball program in 1983 and coached until 1988, compiling a winning percentage of .663. Her record includes two regional championships in 1983 and 1987. Both of those years, the Tritons qualified for the National Junior College Volleyball Championships. In 1983 and 1987, Harrison received recognition by being named District Five coach of the year. In six years, her teams never failed to qualify for a regional tournament.

In her 15 seasons at DMACC, Coach P has built a volleyball program to be the best season after season and to contend nationally year after year. Her numbers at DMACC are impressive with sevin Coach of the Year honors, four Conference Championships, nine Regional Finals, two Conference Seconds, eight time National Volleyball Qualifier and placed fourth in the nation in 2015 and sixth in 2014. Her win total offers exact evidence of coaching success but she gets coach close with her athletes and that is the most rewarding part of teaching and coaching.

Patty and her husband, Steve, along with their children Stephanie, Stacey and Cole appreciate the DMACC/Boone community and have developed a unique working relationship between team, town and student body.
