DMACC's Sara Hansen named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II volleyball

  • Defensively, Hansen had 29 digs during the week

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Sara Hansen the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II volleyball for the week of October 24 to 30.

 

Hansen, a sophomore from Hudson, is the fourth DMACC volleyball player to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Kenya Prescott of Carroll earned the honor for the week of Sept. 12 to 18 and freshmen Kylie Henry of Urbana and Emma Flathers of Treynor were honored the week of Sept. 19 to 25, Henry for her defensive play and Flathers for her offensive play.

 

Hansen came away with 118 assists during the week, averaging 9.8 assists per set. Her week also included eight kills, seven blocks and 29 digs. Hansen had 20 assists, one kill, 10 digs and 1 block assist in a 3-1 loss to Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) on Oct. 24 and recorded 37 assists, four kills, four digs and three block assists as the Bears closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) on Oct. 26. She had a season-high 61 assists and had three kills, 15 digs and three block assists as the Bears kept their season alive with a 3-2 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-B semifinals on Sept. 29.

 

The DMACC volleyball team saw its season come to a close with a 3-2 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the Region XI-B championship match Nov. 3 at Cedar Rapids.

 

Going into the match against KCC, Hansen's season included 885 assists, 131 kills, 18 ace serves, 308 digs and 45 blocks, including 41 block assists. Hansen was averaging 8.76 assists per set.
