DMACC volleyball team drops 3-0 decision to Kirkwood
  • CoFR Kylie Welch of Davenport leads the Bears with 12 kills and 16 digs
  • CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson contributes 14 assists and eight digs
  • DMACC hits .180 in the loss

 

The DMACC volleyball team slipped to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 3-0 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) September 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

KCC, ranked eighth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, won by set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-17. DMACC came into the match ranked 12th in NJCAA Division II.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Kylie Welch of Davenport paced DMACC with 12 kills and a .270 hitting percentage. She got those kills from 37 attacks with two hitting errors. CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker finished with six kills and CoFR Anna Niehaus of Carroll and Abby Allmon of Norwalk had five apiece. The Bears hit .180 in the loss, getting 32 kills from 133 attacks with eight hitting errors.

 

CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson led DMACC in assists with 14 and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque finished with a team-high 17 digs. CoFR Kassidie Galloway of Mechanicsville joined Eddy and Welch in double figures in digs with 11. Maue topped DMACC in blocks with six, including five block assists. Niehaus and CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton had three blocks apiece and Welch, Allmon and CoFR Chloe Gilgen of Modale had two kills apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Sept. 22. Match time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. SWCC is 1-12 overall and 0-3 in the ICCAC
