DMACC volleyball team drops 3-1 decision to #8 Kirkwood

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team slipped to 5-7 for the season and 1-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 3-1 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) September 18 at Cedar Rapids.

 

The Bears took the opening set, 25-17, but KCC took the match with 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 victories in the next three sets.

 

Sophomore Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison led DMACC with 20 kills and a .383 hitting percentage. She got her kills from 47 attacks with just two hitting errors. Sophomore Kyla Green of Elizabeth, Colo., added 11 kills and freshman Darian Gray of Mechanicsville finished with eight.

 

DMACC hit .168 in the loss, getting 45 kills from 179 attacks with 15 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs topped the Bears in assists with 38 and Dilsaver led DMACC in ace serves with four. Freshman Dakota Miles of Dallas Center came away with a team-high 27 digs and Gray added 19. Freshman Jordan Neely of Tiffin finished with 13 digs, Schaa and sophomore Kyra Ikeda of Cedar Rapids had 12 apiece and freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., contributed 11. Freshman Katelyn Courtney of Ames had seven blocks, including five block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will participate in the Kansas City (Kan,) Community College (KCKCC) tournament Sept. 20 and 21 at Kansas City, Kan. The Bears will face Neosho County Community College (NCCC) and Highland Community College (HCC) on Sept. 20 and will play KCKCC and Cowley County Community College (CCCC) on Sept. 21. HCC and CCCC are ranked fifth and 11th respectively in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
