DMACC volleyball team tops NIACC in five sets, 3-2

Sophomore Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison had 19 kills and three ace serves and freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., and sophomore Darian Gray of Mechanicsville came away with 11 and nine kills respectively as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team defeated North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), 3-2, September 4 at Mason City.

 

Set scores were 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10 as the Bears improved to 3-3 for the season and 1-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The match saw the Bears overcome a 16-0 deficit in the fourth set and use the momentum from that 20-9 run to win the fifth set.

 

DMACC hit .128 in the win, getting 45 kills from 196 attacks with 20 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs led DMACC in assists with 36 and freshman Dakota Miles of Dallas Center had a team-high 42 digs. Schaa and freshman Jordan Neely of Tiffin had 14 digs apiece and freshmen Katelyn Courtney of Ames led the way in blocks with 11, including five solo blocks. Kelley added five blocks, including four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Yellowjacket Invitational today at Rochester, Minn. The Bears will face Rochester Technical Community College (RTCC) and Madison Community College (MCC) in the tournament.
