DMACC's Daiton Martin named ICCAC Defensive Player of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball player Daiton Martin the ICCAC Defensive Player of the Week for Division II volleyball for the week of August 22 to September 2.

 

Martin, a freshman libero from Essex, helped the Bears to a 6-0 start with wins over Division I Indian Hills Community College (IHCC), Muskegon Community College (MCC), the No. 20 team in the National Junior College (NJCAA) Division II, and Madison Community College (MCC), the No. 8 team in NJCAA Division III.

 

The Bears capped the week with a 3-1 decision over Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the ICCAC opener for both teams.

 

Martin recorded 127 digs in 23 sets and is the ICCAC leader in digs per set at 5.52. She also had 12 ace serves in the six wins.

 

In addition to her 127 digs and 12 ace serves, Martin has one kill and eight assists in DMACC's six matches.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Yellowjacket Volleyball Invite Sept. 7 at Rochester, Minn. The Bears will face Madison Community College (MCC) in their tournament opener, followed by a match against Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC).
