The DMACC women's golf team began the 2021 fall season by tying for the team championship in the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff August 30 at the Fort Dodge Country Club in Fort Dodge.

The Bears totaled 356 strokes in the 18-hole tournament to tie Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) for first place.

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Krista Swenson of Story City and freshman Ashley Michel of Nassau, Bahamas, led the Bears to the tie with rounds of 86, sharing medalist honors with Kelly Winter of ILCC.

DMACC freshmen Taylor Balsley of Ames and Danielle Nolde of Ogallala, Neb., tied for sixth place with scores of 92 and CoFR Quinn Eslinger of Afton finished eighth with a 92.

Rounding out DMACC's performance were freshmen Jaiden Wallander of Indianola and Emmy Monson of Runnells and CoFR Frannie Brown of Grundy Center. Wallander finished 10th with a 98, Monson tied for 11th with a 99 and Brown finished 13th with a 107.

DMACC women's golf coach Chris Seaboch said he will use the fall season as a time to see what he has for a team.

"Let's see how our (Covid-19 freshmen (CoFR) have developed from their freshman year, what they did during the summer season, did they recognize some weaknesses in their game and did they spend time improving those (weaknesses)," Seaboch said. "Even bigger, what do our freshmen look like and who is going to contribute as a freshman?" Seaboch said.

Seaboch said that because of the Covid-19 virus, he was unable to see his players as he would have seen them during a normal setting so he is pretty much looking at the players' stats.

"What do their stats say about them?" Seaboch said. "Their stats say certain things, but you can't get everything out of reaching that so we've got to find out what type of player. They are and really start building a play for the wintertime for us to work on any improvements they may need."

The Bears played eight golfers in the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff and Seaboch said he will probably take six or seven players to the remainder of the fall tournaments, meaning they will be competition among the players.

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the NIACC Invite Sept. 7 at Mason City.
