Ainley leads DMACC women's basketball team past ECC, 82-58

Freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored a game-high 25 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to an 82-58 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) January 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Ainley was 9-of-18 from the field, including 6-of-10 from three-point range, as the Bears improved to 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Freshmen Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji joined Ainley in double figures with 14, 12 and 12 points respectively.

 

DMACC opened up a 20-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and led the rest of the way. The Bears had a 34-27 advantage at halftime and were up 56-44 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 51 percent in the win, making 35 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 9-of-27 from three-point range and 3-of-10 from the free throw line.

 

Hutchinson had a double-double with 12 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 39-10 advantage on the boards. Ainley had eight rebounds and sophomore Reagan Fuller of Polk City and freshman Hallie Mohr of Morning Sun finished with five rebounds apiece. Hutchinson and freshmen Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., and Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale dished out three assists apiece and Franzen and Mohr topped the Bears in steals with two apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Jan. 25 inside the DMACC gymnasium. NIACC is 12-7 overall and 5-3 in the ICCAC. The Trojans defeated DMACC, 65-48, when the two teams played Dec. 3 at Mason City.
