DMACC women's basketball team defeats Simpson JV, 75-58
  • Freshman Jensen Archibald leads DMACC with 14 points

After playing its first seven games on the road and then seeing its first home game postponed because of inclement weather, the DMACC women's basketball team finally played a home game December 1 and celebrated with a 75-58 win over the Simpson College junior varsity (SCJV) inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Jensen Archibald of Martinsdale led the Bears to their fourth consecutive victory with 14 points and sophomore Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia and freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake reached double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. DMACC improved to 5-3 with the win.

 

The Bears led 21-18 at the end of the first quarter and had a 37-31 advantage at halftime. They pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring SCJV 20-11 to open up a 57-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC shot 38 percent from the field, making 26 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 5-of-15 from three-point range and 18-of-30 from the free throw line. Smith accounted for three of DMACC's five three-pointers en route to her 12 points.

 

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji pulled down 10 rebounds to lead DMACC to a 49-42 advantage on the boards. Freshman Adriana Contreras-Gomez of Commerce City, Colo., had nine rebounds and freshman Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., came away with six. Archibald and Jones led the Bears in assists with three apiece and sophomore Reagan Franzen of Polk City had a team-high three steals. Freshman Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant recorded a pair of blocked shots.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team opens Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Dec. 3 when the Bears face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) at Mason City. The Trojans are also 5-3 on the season with losses in their last two games.
