Ainley's 24 points lead DMACC women's basketball team past Black Hawk-Moline, 69-64

Freshman Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake scored a team-high 24 points to lead the DMACC women's basketball team to a 69-64 win over Black Hawk-Moline Community College (BHMCC) November 22 at Moline, Ill.

 

Ainley recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 24 points as the Bears improved to 4-3 with their third straight win.

 

Ainley was the only DMACC player to reach double figures but she got support from freshman Jensen Archibald of Martensdale, sophomore Jadeyn Smith of Arcadia and freshman Hallie Mohr of Morning Sun who scored nine, eight and seven points respectively.

 

The game was close all the way. DMACC led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and the contest was tied at halftime, 33-33. The Bears outscored BHMCC 21-18 in the third period to take a 54-51 advantage into the fourth quarter and put the game away by outscoring the Braves 15-13 in the period.

 

DMACC shot 43 percent, hitting 23 of 53 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-14 from three-point range and 19-of-24 from the free throw line. Ainley's 24 points came from 8-of-16 shooting from the field and she made eight of 10 free throw attempts.

 

Ainley's 10 rebounds helped the Bears to a 51-39 advantage on the boards, including 38 defensive rebounds. Freshman Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant had nine rebounds and Mohr and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Camry Jones of Okoboji had eight rebounds apiece. Freshman Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill, dished out four assists, Fuller recorded four blocked shots and Ainley came away with a pair of steals.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team is idle until Nov. 29 when the Bears will play their first home game of the season. They will face the Grand View University junior varsity (GVUJV) at 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
