DMACC women's basketball team suffers 86-41 loss

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team fell to 2-3 for the season behind an 86-41 loss to the Mount Mercy University junior varsity (MMUJV) November 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The loss was the third straight for the Bears.

 

MMUJV led throughout the game. It was 17-4 at the end of the first quarter, 44-15 at halftime and 66-31 at the end of the third quarter.

 

Sophomore Hanna McKinney of Des Moines was the only DMACC player in double figures with 11 points. Sophomore Taelor Lessmeier of Fort Dodge and freshman Riley Gatton of Montezuma scored six points apiece and freshman Jada Powell of Des Moines contributed five points.

 

The Bears shot just 27 percent, hitting 27 of 62 field goal attempts. They were 3-of-25 from three-point range and 4-of-9 from the free throw line.

 

MMUJV had a 48-36 advantage on the boards with Gatton's eight rebounds leading DMACC. Powell and freshman Shamir Brown of Tuscaloosa, Ala., had five rebounds apiece. Freshman Katie Scott of Polk City topped the Bears in assists with two and Gatton and Brown had one steal apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will play in the Emerson Classic Nov. 15 and 16 at Marshalltown. The Bears will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) on Nov. 15 and will play Central (Neb.) Community College (CNEBCC) on Nov. 16. CNEBCC defeated DMACC, 72-64, when the two teams squared off Nov. 9 in the Ramada Classic at Columbus, Neb.
