Horn's double-doubler leads DMACC women's basketball team past ECC, 68-54

Sophomore Ellie Horn of Newton recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the DMACC women's basketball team handed Ellsworth Community College (ECC) a 68-54 loss Feb. 9th inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Sameria Jackson of Houston, Texas, tallied 11 points and sophomore Aliyah Robinson of Waterloo came away with 10 as the Bears climbed above .500 at 12-11. DMACC improved to 7-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The Bears led throughout the game in sweeping their series with the Panthers. They had a 19-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter, led 33-23 at halftime and 50-37 at the end of the third quarter.

 

DMACC shot 36 percent in the win, hitting 24 of 66 field goal attempts. The Bears were 4-of-18 from three-point range and 16-of-22 from the free throw line. They had a 44-41 advantage on the boards behind Horn's 10 rebounds. Sophomore Grace Stalzer of Zearing collected eight rebounds and Robinson came away with seven.

 

Sophomore Emma Rouse of Boone dished out seven assists and freshman Asia Mena of Chicago, Ill.,  added five assists and a team-high four steals. Robinson finished with three steals.

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Feb. 13th at Estherville. The Lakers are 20-5 overall and 8-3 in the ICCAC. DMACC defeated ILCC 76-62 when the two teams played Jan. 12th inside the DMACC gymnasium.
