DMACC Women’s Basketball Team Drops 69-55 Decision to ILCC

Sophomores Molly Mitchell of Okoboji and Joniqua Clark of Cedar Rapids scored 17 and 15 points respectively as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's basketball team dropped a 69-55 game to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) February 14 at Estherville.

 

The Bears trailed 23-11 at the end of the first quarter and had to try to come from behind the rest of the game. ILCC had a 42-23 lead at halftime and pushed its advantage to 62-38 at the end of three quarters.

 

The loss was DMACC's seventh of the season against 19 victories and the Bears fell to 6-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC shot just 36 percent, hitting 21 of 58 field goal attempts, including 1-of-12 from three-point range. The Bears were 12-of-19 from the free throw line.

 

ILCC had a 39-33 advantage on the boards with Mitchell's eight rebounds leading DMACC. Sophomore Beth Atwood of Packwood grabbed six rebounds and Mitchell and sophomore Regan Shockley of Hartley topped DMACC in steals with four apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team faces Southeastern Community College (SECC) Feb. 17 at Keokuk. SECC is 18-7 overall and 5-4 in the ICCAC. DMACC defeated the Blackhawks 73-61 when the two teams played Jan. 20 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
