DMACC'S Mia Ruther named ICCAC DII Player of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Mia Ruther the ICCAC Division II Player of the Week for the Week of March 25 to 31.

 

Ruther, a sophomore from Burlington, is the third DMACC softball player to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Maddie Karr of Center Point was honored for the weeks of March 4 to 10 and March 11 to 17 and freshman Josie Swafford of Wellston, Okla., has been named ICCAC DII Pitcher of the Week three times, the week of March 4 to 10, March 11 to 17 and March 25 to 31.

 

Ruther appeared in six games during the week as the Bears swept doubleheader against Marshalltown Community College (MCC), the Simpson College junior varsity and Southwestern Community College (SWCC). She batted 16 times and reached base 12 times to earn a .750 batting average. Her 12 hits including a double and a triple and she drove in seven runs and scored nine runs.

 

Ruther is hitting .610 this season with a .660 on-base percentage and a .744 slugging percentage. She has 50 hits in 82 at-bats, including five doubles and three triples. She has driven in 20 runs, scored 40 runs and stolen 22 bases.

 

Ruther leads the ICCAC in batting average and is ranked second in stolen bases.

 

The DMACC softball team, ranked fourth in the NJCAA Division II poll, is 23-4 this season and leads the ICCAC at 6-0. The Bears, who have won 10 consecutive games, are scheduled to face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENEB) in a doubleheader April 5 at the DMACC softball diamond. DMACC swept a doubleheader from NENEB April 1 at Norfolk, Neb., winning by scores of 13-0 and 14-2.
