The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball team stretched its current winning streak to 10 consecutive games after sweeping a doubleheader from Ellsworth Community College (ECC) April 2 at the DMACC softball diamond.

The Bears, ranked fourth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by scores of 14-0 and 9-1. Both games were called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

DMACC improved to 23-4 for the season and sits atop the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) at 6-0.

Freshman Josie Swafford of Wellston, Okla., threw a one-hitter, struck out 10 and walked one in winning her 10th game of the season against one loss. The Bears gave Swafford a 4-0 lead in the first inning and made it 13-0 with nine runs in the second. They closed out the win with a run in the bottom of the third.

Sophomore Avery Guy of Cedar Rapids and freshman Ally Pickering of Winterset paced the Bears at the plate with four and three runs batted in respectively. Sophomores Katie Wells of Topeka, Kan., and Ellie Dixon of Iowa City had three hits and two RBIs apiece in the win. Wells belted a pair of doubles and Dixon hit one. Freshman Morgan Lewis of Cedar Rapids, sophomore Mia Ruther of Burlington, Guy, Pickering and sophomore Jayci Vos of Monroe had two hits apiece.

Pickering had two hits and drove in four runs for the Bears in the second game. DMACC took a 2-0 lead in the third, scored four runs in the fourth and added its final three runs in the fifth, ending the game.

Ruther came away with three hits in the win and Lewis joined Pickering with two hits and drove in two runs.

Sophomore Peyton Parker of La Porte City pitched all five innings and recorded the victory. She allowed one run on four hits, struck out three and walked one.

The DMACC softball team will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) in a doubleheader April 4 at Marshalltown. MCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 6-15. The Bears defeated the Tigers in both games of a doubleheader March 26 at the DMACC softball diamond, winning by scores of 21-0 and 12-4.
