DMACC men's golf team wins Hawkeye Fall Shootout

 

Sophomore Sam Vertanen of Ames and freshman Spencer Clatt of Gilbert shared medalist honors with 36-hole scores of one-under-par 143 to lead the DMACC men's golf team to the team championship in the Hawkeye Fall Shootout Sept. 30 at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Dike.

 

The Bears shot 595 in the 36-hole tournament, posting rounds of 302 and 293, to edge Hawkeye Community College (HCC) by two strokes.

 

Vertanen shot rounds of 72 and 71 and Clatt turned in scores of 73 and 70 in the tournament. The Bears got a 10th-place tie from freshman Kaleb Allen of West Burlington and freshman Cade McGill of Johnston tied for 12th. Allen had rounds of 80 and 74 for a 154 total and McGill shot 77 and 78 for a 155.

 

DMACC freshman Cole Johnson of Sioux City tied for 20th with a score of 165 on rounds of 82 and 83.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Quad Cup Oct. 7 at Rice Lake Country Club in Lake Mills.
