DMACC men's golf team finishes sixth in Wartburg Invitational
  • Sophomore Sam Vertanen ties for third with a 3-under-par 141
  • Freshman Spencer Clatt ties for ninth with a two-over-par 146
  • Freshman Cole Johnson ties for 24th place

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a sixth-place finish in the Wartburg Invitational September 23 and 24 at Prairie Links Golf Course in Waverly.

 

Sophomore Sam Vertanen of Ames led the Bears with a third-place finish in the individual competition, posting a 36-hole score of three-under-par 141. Vertanen turned in scores of 71 and 70 on the par-72 layout.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) took the team championship with a two-day total of 565, posting rounds of 282 and 282. DMACC finished at 607 on rounds of 305 and 302. KCC's Taylor Crisp won medalist honors with a five-under-par 139. Crisp shot rounds of 71 and 68.

 

DMACC got a ninth-place finish from freshman Spencer Clatt of Gilbert. Clatt shot a pair of 73s for a 36-hole score of 146. Bears' freshman Cole Johnson of Sioux City finished in 24th place with a score of 151. He shot rounds of 75 and 76.

 

Other DMACC scores included 161s by freshmen Cade McGill of Johnson and Drake Anderson of Sargeant Bluff and sophomore Ethan Gillis of Pickering, Ontario, Canada. All three tied for 49th place. McGill posted scores of 80 and 81, Anderson shot 81-80 and Gillis of Pickering shot rounds of 82 and 79.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Hawkeye Invite Sept. 30 at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Dike.
