DMACC men's golf team finishes fourth in NJCAA DII National Preview

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's golf team closed out the fall portion of the 2019-20 season with a fourth-place finish in the NJCAA DII National Preview October 7 and 8 at Joplin, Mo.

 

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) won the team championship with a 54-hole score of 893 and DMACC was fourth at 932. Jon Hopkins of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) won the individual championship with a one-under-par 215. Hopkins defeated Ben Epperly of KCC in a one-hole playoff to come away with the title.

 

DMACC was led by sophomores Dylan Ellis of Aplington and Noah Hartman of Slater. Both tied for fifth with 54-hole scores of 227. Ellis shot rounds of 70, 81 and 76 and Hartman turned in scores of 78, 75 and 74.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshman Dylan Sporrer of Nevada finish 24th with a 240; freshman Trevor Heinen of Waterloo tied for 25th at 241; and freshman Ryan Leath of Glenwood finished 39th with a 259. Sporrer posted scores of 77, 79, 84; Heinen shot rounds of 83, 78, 80; and Leath turned in scores of 83, 78, 98.

 

The DMACC men's golf team finished the fall season with two championships, winning the NIACC Invitational Sept. 12 at Mason City and taking the Ottawa Invitational Sept. 23 and 24 at Lawrence, Kan.
