DMACC's Angelo Winkel named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Winkel is one of two DMACC men's basketball players to earn the honor this season
  • Winkel scored 36 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Bears went 1-1 during the week
  • Winkel has six double-doubles this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Angelo Winkel the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of January 16 to 22.

 

Winkel, a freshman from Algona, has been honored by the conference twice this season and he is one of two DMACC men's basketball players to be honored during this school year. He also won the award for the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 4 and freshman Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., was honored for the week of Jan. 9 to 15.

 

Winkel scored 36 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Bears split two games during the week. He had 18 points and six rebounds in an 86-83 double-overtime loss to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) on Jan. 17 and scored 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 92-86 in over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) on Feb. 21.

 

Winkel is averaging 13.7 points and 7.5 rebounds a game this season. He is shooting 55 percent from the field, having made 122 of 223 field goal attempts. He is 6-of-19 from three-point range for 32 percent and 51-of-73 at the free throw line for 70 percent.

 

Williams has 164 rebounds, including 109 defensive rebounds. He is ranked fourth in rebounding in the ICCAC and he has six double-doubles. Winkel's season also includes 20 assists, six steals and 17 blocked shots

The DMACC men's basketball team, ranked 14th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, is 17-5 overall and 6-3 in the ICCAC. The Bears will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Feb. 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium. NECC, which dropped a 74-69 decision to DMACC Dec. 7 at Norfolk, Neb., is 11-10 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
