DMACC baseball team takes two of three from SECC

The DMACC baseball team closed out the 2022 regular season by winning two games in a three-game series against Southeastern Community College (SECC) May 6 and 7 at West Burlington.

 

The Bears took a single game on May 6, 7-0, and won the opener of a doubleheader on May 7, 14-1. SECC took the nightcap, 6-2.

 

DMACC ended the regular season at 34-20 overall and 20-13 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Jayden Singleton of Des Moines had three hits, including a triple, and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jack Luster of Huxley drove in a pair of runs to lead DMACC to its win on May 6. The Bears scored three runs in the top of the fourth and one each in the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth to come away with the win.

 

Freshman Reed Stallman of Alburnett and CoFR Jake Thilges of Johnston had two hits apiece in the win.

 

CoFR Kaleb Krier of Altoona started on the mound and went just a third of an inning, allowing one hit. CoFR Jacob Norris of North Liberty worked six and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits, striking out four and walking two. He came away with the win to improve to 1-2 for the season. Freshman Dale Stout of Waukee went two innings, allowing one hit, striking out four and walking one.

 

Stallman homered and doubled twice and drove in four runs to lead the Bears to their win in the opener on May 7. DMACC scored three runs in the first, four in the second, three in third and two each in the fourth and fifth to close out the win in five innings.

 

Freshman Cael Boever of Sioux City had three hits and three RBIs in the win and sophomore Jake Brill of Maple, Wis., and CoFR Jackson Fisher of Chariton and Tre Mungin of Omaha, Neb., had two hits apiece, including a home run from Brill and a double by Mungin. Brill and Mungin drove in two runs apiece.

 

CoFR Anthony Potthoff of Van Meter went the entire five innings and came away with his fifth win of the season against three losses. He allowed one run on three hits, struck out three and walked one.

 

Mungin had three hits and an RBI in DMACC's loss in the final game of the series. SECC broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the bottom of the third and a run in the bottom of the seventh. DMACC scored single runs in the second and eighth innings.

 

CoFR Jacob Draeger of Johnston pitched the first four and a third innings and fell to 2-3 with the loss. He allowed five runs on seven hits, struck out two and walked one. CoFR Ben Dixon of Sioux City went two hitless innings and gave up one run. He struck out two and walked one and freshman Simon Gregersen of Ramsey, Minn., closed out the game with an inning and two-thirds on the mound. He struck out four and walked one.

 

The DMACC baseball team will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI May 12 to 15 at Cedar Rapids. Pairings for the tournament have not yet been announced. DMACC is expected to be a No. 3 or 4 seed in the tournament.
