DMACC baseball team drops three-game series to IWCC
  • Reivers take series by scores of 3-2, 9-5 and 11-4
  • Brodie Kresser leads DMACC with five hits, including two doubles
  • Reed Stallman goes 4-for-11 with the Bears' only home run

 

The DMACC baseball team slipped to 29-16 overall and 15-9 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after dropping a three-game series to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) April 23 and 24 at Council Bluffs.

 

IWCC, ranked seventh in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I poll, took both ends of a doubleheader on April 23, 3-2 and 9-5. The Reivers came away with an 11-4 decision in a 9-inning single game on April 24.

 

Freshmen Brodie Kresser of Jesup and Reed Stallman of Alburnett led DMACC in the series, collecting five and four hits respectively. Kresser's five hits included a pair of doubles and Stallman hit DMACC's only home run in the series in the April 24 game.

 

Stallman and freshman Cael Boever of Sioux City had two hits apiece and Stallman and Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Donovan Weaver of Davenport drove in one run apiece in DMACC's loss in the opener on April 23.

 

The Bears led 2-1 after four innings but surrendered two runs in the bottom of the seventh as IWCC came away with the win.

 

CoFR Jacob Draeger of Johnston pitched the first six and two-thirds innings for DMACC, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one. Freshman Simon Gregersen of Ramsey, Minn., allowed one run on one hit and was not credited with any innings pitched.

Kresser had two hits and drove in two runs in the second game on April 23. The Bears trailed 2-1 after the first inning and 9-1 after six innings. Kresser's two RBIs came during a four-run rally in the seventh inning.

 

CoFR Kaleb Krier of Altoona pitched the first inning and two-thirds for DMACC and fell to 4-3 with the loss. Krier allowed two runs on two hits, struck out one and walked one. CoFR Jacob Norris of North Liberty also went an inning and two-thirds, allowing three runs and walking four batters. CoFR Ben Dixon of Sioux City went two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run on one hit. He struck out one batter. Freshman Zach Hoehn of Waseca, Minn., pitched two innings and allowed three runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked three. Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Cade Van Ness of Glenwood also went two innings, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

 

Kresser had two hits and Stallman hit a solo home run for the Bears in the final game of the series. DMACC led 3-0 after two innings but gave up six runs in the fifth and five in the seventh.

 

CoFR Anthony Potthoff of Van Meter pitched the first four and a third innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. He struck out one and walked one. Freshman Dale Stout of Waukee went two innings and allowed four runs on two hits with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Drew Scherbenske of Rapid City, S.D., pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up two runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked one. CoFR Jarret Novak of Omaha, Neb., threw one inning, allowing one hit and walking one batter.

 

The DMACC baseball team will host Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) in a doubleheader April 27 at the DMACC baseball diamond. NECC is 34-11 overall and 14-9 in the ICCAC. The Hawks are ranked 15th in the NJCAA Division II poll.
