The Kirkwood Community College (KCC) closed out a three-game series against the DMACC baseball team with a 6-4 win April 4 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
The win gave the Eagles a sweep of the three-game series and sent the Bears to 17-10 overall and 5-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). KCC led throughout the game after scoring three runs in the top of the second. The Eagles added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth for a 6-0 lead. DMACC closed to 6-3 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and added another run in the bottom of the eighth.
Sophomore Jake Brill of Maple, Wis., led DMACC with a pair of singles and drove in one run. Freshman Gage Franck of Marion also drove in a run and freshman Reed Stallman of Alburnett accounted for the Bears' only extra-base hit with a double.
Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Anthony Potthoff of Van Meter started for DMACC and threw the first five and a third innings. He allowed six runs on eight hits, struck out eight and fell to 4-1 with the loss. CoFR Simon Gregersen of Ramsey, Minn., went three and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit, striking out six and walking three.
The DMACC baseball team will host Marshalltown Community College (MCC) in a doubleheader April 6 at the DMACC baseball diamond. MCC is 6-16 overall and 3-6 in the ICCAC. The Tigers dropped a 9-8 decision to DMACC March 29 at Marshalltown.
