DMACC's Austin Murr named to NJCAA DII Third All-American Team

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball player Austin Murr to the 2019 NJCAA Division II All-American Third Team.

 

Murr, a sophomore from Stillwater, Minn., was named to an infield position.

 

Murr helped the Bears to a 38-17 season and their first Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) championship since 2014 with a 21-7 record. He batted .403, finishing fourth in the ICCAC in batting average. Murr's season also included a .510 on-base percentage and a .701 slugging percentage. He had 62 hits in 154 at-bats, including 16 doubles, six triples and six home runs. Murr drove in 54 runs, scored 54 runs and stole 14 bases in 17 attempts.

 

Primarily a first baseman, Murr also played in the outfield, compiling a .982 fielding percentage with 261 putouts, 16 assists and just five errors from 282 total chances. He participated in 12 double plays.

 

After winning the ICCAC regular season championship, DMACC took a No. 1 seed into the NJCAA Region XI Baseball Tournament. The Bears dropped their tournament opener to Kirkwood Community College (KCC), then defeated North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), 7-2, before seeing their season come to an end with an 8-3 loss to Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENEB) in an elimination game.
