DMACC baseball team falls to Iowa Western CC, 4-2, 5-4

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team fell to 3-3 for the season after dropping both ends of a doubleheader against Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) March 10 at Pittsburgh, Kan.

 

Game scores were 4-2 and 5-4.

 

Sophomore Jack Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., had two hits and drove in one run and freshman Carter Troncin of Urbandale also drove in a run for the Bears in the opener. The Bears, who got a triple from sophomore Austin Murr of Stillwater, Minn., trailed 4-0 after five innings and scored twice in the top of the sixth to make it a 4-2 game.

 

Sophomore Jackson Uner of Maplewood, Minn., pitched the first four and a third innings for DMACC and suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 for the season. He allowed four runs on six hits. Freshman Kaden Peterson of Luther worked an inning and two-thirds and struck out one batter.

 

IWCC used a four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth to take the second game. DMACC led 2-1 after scoring twice in the top of the third and scored one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings.

 

The Bears were limited to just four hits, including doubles by Johnson and freshman Isaac Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and a triple by Murr, who drove in two DMACC runs. Johnson and freshman Dylan Voves of Mason City had one RBI apiece.

 

Freshman Logan Ymker of Sioux Falls, S.D., worked three and two-thirds innings and took the loss in his first decision of the season. He allowed three runs on three hits, struck out four and walked three. Freshman Garret Reisz of Council Bluffs threw an inning and a third, allowing two runs on three hits and freshman Nathaniel Gorczyca of Omaha, Neb., struck out one batter and walked one in one inning on the mound.

 

DMACC and IWCC will play another doubleheader today at Pittsburgh, Kan.
