The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team lost three of four games to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in doubleheaders played April 28 and 29 at Fort Dodge.

ICCC won both games on April 28, 9-8 in eight innings and 9-2. The Tritons also took the opener on April 29, 9-6, and DMACC won the nightcap, 10-7. Getting the win in the final game of the series improved DMACC's record to 20-24 overall and 7-15 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

Sophomore Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb., belted a three-run home run and freshmen Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., and Evan Salmon of Urbandale and sophomore Jeremy Lovera of Allentown, Penn., had three hits apiece in DMACC's loss in the opener on April 28. The Bears used a three-run rally in the top of the sixth to gain an 8-8 tie, but ICCC pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth to come away with the win.

Freshmen Austin Murr of Denmark Township, Minn., and Tavien Gillette of Rock Island, Ill., had two hits apiece in the loss and Schwabe, Salmon, Lovera and freshman Jakob Richardson of Cave Creek, Ariz., drove in one run apiece.

Freshman Nate Holliday of Muscatine pitched the first four and two-thirds innings for DMACC, allowing three runs on nine hits. He struck out two and walked one. Freshman Jackson Uner of Stillwater, Minn. worked a third of an inning and gave up one hit and Richardson pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out one, walked one and suffered his third loss of the season against two wins.

DMACC got just four hits, a double by Murr and singles from Schwabe and freshmen Austin Weiler of Olathe, Kan., and Denver Blinn of West Fargo, N.D., in losing the second game on April 28.

ICCC opened up a 5-0 lead after four innings and put the game away with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Freshman Spencer Hanson of West Des Moines fell to 5-2 with the loss. He pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, struck out three and walked one. Sophomore Luke Longmuir of Cottage Grove, Minn., pitched a third of an inning and gave up one run on three hits.

Weiler hit a two-run home run and had an RBI double in DMACC's loss in the opener on April 29. Murr and Krambeck also had two hits apiece in the game and Salmon drove in a run with a base hit.

Sophomore Alec Holcomb of Owatonna, Minn., fell to 0-8 with the loss. He pitched three innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Carlos Eusebio of Coral Springs, Fla., pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run on two hits and walked two batters and freshman Javier Puente of Perry pitched an inning and a third, allowing one hit, walking two batters and striking out one. Freshman Henry Ristvedt of Savage, Minn., pitched one inning and recorded one strikeout and one walk.

Richardson homered and doubled and drove in four runs in DMACC's win in the final game of the series. Murr had three hits and two RBIs in the game and Krambeck and Weiler drove in one run apiece.

The Bears scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead and padded their advantage with two runs in the top of the sixth. ICCC made it a 6-2 game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, but DMACC answered with three runs in the top of the seventh and one in the top of the eighth for a 10-2 lead. ICCC made it respectable with four runs in the bottom of the eighth and one in the bottom of the ninth.

Sophomore John Werner of Burlington pitched seven and two-thirds innings and earned the win. He allowed six runs on nine hits, struck out nine and walked two. Uner worked an inning, allowing one run on three hits and freshman Sam Laakso of Duluth, Minn., pitched a third of an inning and walked one batter.

The DMACC baseball team will face Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) May 1 at the DMACC baseball diamond. Game time is 2 p.m.
