DMACC baseball team sweeps doubleheader from ILCC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team improved to 11-10 for the season and 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a sweep of a doubleheader against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) March 30 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

The Bears used a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener, 6-5, and scored seven runs in the first two innings in taking the nightcap, 13-7.

 

Freshman Austin Murr of Denmark Township, Minn., hit a two-run double and then scored on a wild pitch, all in the bottom of the seventh, as DMACC came away with the win in the opener. Murr had three hits and drove in three runs and freshman Robbie McCargar of West Des Moines had two hits and drove in a run. Sophomore Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb, also collected an RBI for DMACC.

 

Freshman Jakob Richardson of Cave Creek, Ariz., pitched the first five innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He struck out four and walked two. Freshman Jackson Uner of Stillwater, Minn., pitched the final two innings and improved to 3-0 with the win. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two batters.

 

Freshman Evan Salmon of Urbandale drove in four runs and Murr and freshman Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., had three hits apiece to lead DMACC to the win in the second game. The Bears led 7-1 after two innings, but a three-run rally by ILCC in the top of the third brought the Lakers to within 7-4. DMACC answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the sixth to open up an 11-4 advantage and closed out the win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth.

 

Salmon, Krambeck and freshman Hayden Fiala of Sioux Falls, S.D., had two hits apiece in the win and Murr and Krambeck drove in two runs each.

 

Freshman Spencer Hanson of West Des Moines pitched the first five innings and got his fourth win of the season against no losses. He allowed four runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked two. Freshman Henry Ristvedt of Savage, Minn., pitched two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk and Uner worked the final two innings, allowing one run on one hit. He struck out four batters.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in a four game series in Mason City begining on Saturday.
