Stewart, Bellling lead DMACC women's cross country team to seventh-place finish in Trent Smith Invitational

Freshman Grace Stewart of Perry and sophomore Elizabeth Belling of Grimes finished in the top 20 individually as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women's cross country team placed seventh in the Trent Smith Invitational October 11 at Mason City.

 

Stewart posted a time of 20 minutes, 16 seconds on the 5K course, finishing 13th, and Belling was 18th in 20:28 as the Bears scored 191 points in finishing seventh. Minnesotas State University-Mankato (MSUM) took the team championship with 22 points and MSUM's Allyssa Reeves won the individual competition with a time of 18:48.

 

Other DMACC results included a 49th-place finish by freshman Cindy Liera of LeGrand. Freshman Karima Kuku of Des Moines was 52nd in 23:32 and freshman Ashley Weringa of Algona placed 59th with a time of 24:15.

 

The DMACC women's cross country team will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI championship Oct. 25 at Ottumwa.
