The DMACC volleyball team fell to 14-11 for the season after dropping a pair of matches in the Triton Volleyball Tournament October 15 at Fort Dodge.
DMACC, the No. 15 team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, fell to second-ranked Cowley County Community College (CCCC), 3-1, in the first match and then lost to Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC), 3-2, in the second match.
Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Abby Allmon of Norwalk had 14 kills and CoFR Kylie Welch of Davenport added 12 as the Bears fell to CCCC, 19-25, 25-22, 12-25, 16-25. Allmon hit .393 in the loss, getting her 14 kills from 28 attacks with three hitting errors. DMACC hit just .189 with 41 kills from 127 attacks and 17 hitting errors.
CoFR Sara Hansen of Hudson had 34 assists in the loss and CoFR Rachel Eddy of Dubuque led three players in double figures in digs with 12. Hansen and CoFR Morgan Tupper of Nevada had 11 digs apiece. Hansen, CoFR Abigail Maue of Walker and CoFR Alissa Weinkoetz of Afton had three blocks apiece.
Allmon had 14 kills, Welch finished with 12, Weinkoetz added 11 and CoFR Anna Niehaus of Carroll and Maue had nine and eight respectively as DMACC lost to CCC, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 16-25, 10-15. Allmon hit well again, getting her 14 kills from 35 attacks with two hitting errors for a .343 hitting percentage. As a team, DMACC hit .193 with 55 kills from 166 attacks with 23 hitting errors.
Hansen topped the Bears in assists with 44 and Welch had three ace serves with CoFR Elizabeth Pierce of Altoona getting two. Welch and Hansen had 18 digs apiece and Eddy added 15. Maue had eight blocks, including seven block assists. Weinkoetz came away with five block assists and Allmon and Niehaus had four blocks each, including three block assists apiece.
The DMACC volleyball team is home to Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) this evening. Match time is 6 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. IHCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 15-10 on the season and is ranked 19th nationally. The Falcons took a 3-2 decision from DMACC Aug. 24 at Ottumwa.
