The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team added another split to its tournament resume following two matches in the Triton Invitational Oct. 11 at Fort Dodge.
The Bears opened tournament play with a 3-0 loss to Cowley County Community College (CCCC) and then defeated Williston State College (WSC), 3-0, to move to 14-14 for the season. DMACC has come away with a split in each of six tournaments this season.
Sophomore Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison had nine kills and three ace serves and freshman Darian Gray of Mechanicsville added six as the Bears fell to CCCC, 23-25, 16-25, 19-25. DMACC hit .142 in the loss, getting 26 kills from 127 attacks with eight hitting errors.
Sophomore Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs had 19 assists in the match and freshman Dakota Miles of Dallas Center led the Bears in digs with 19. Gray and freshman Jordan Neely of Tiffin had 16 and 13 kills respectively and freshman Katelyn Courtney of Ames finished with five blocks, including three block assists. Dilsaver had four blocks, including three block assists.
Dilsaver had 10 kills and Gray finished with seven in a 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 win over WSC. Dilsaver hit .444 with her 10 kills coming from 18 attacks with two hitting errors. Gray hit .500 with seven kills in 14 attacks and no hitting errors.
As a team, the Bears hit .358 with 29 kills from 67 attacks and five hitting errors.
Schaa topped DMACC in assists with 22 and freshman Sloane Magill of Sigourney had three ace serves and Dilsaver had two. Miles and sophomore Kyra Ikeda of Cedar Rapids had 11 and 10 digs respectively and Dilsaver had four blocks, including two block assists.
Dilsaver and Courtney were named to the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the tournament.
The DMACC volleyball team will face Hawkeye Community College (HCC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) match Oct. 16 at Waterloo. The Bears are 4-2 in league play. HCC is 13-19 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
