DMACC volleyball team falls to KCC in NJCAA Region XI tourney

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) avenged a regular-season loss to the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team with a 3-2 win over the Bears in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region IX-A Volleyball Tournament October 27 at Fort Dodge.

 

The Eagles won by scores of 13-25, 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13 to end the season for the Bears, who closed at 23-12. DMACC finished fourth in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 6-3 record.

 

Sophomore Peyton Parker of La Porte City led DMACC with 14 kills and freshman Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison and sophomore Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs contributed 11 and 10 kills respectively. Freshman Kyra Ikeda of Fairfax finished with nine kills.

 

The Bears hit .190 in the loss, getting 56 kills from 147 attacks with 28 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Gill Tupper of Nevada had 49 kills, two ace serves, three blocks and nine digs and was named to the all-tournament team. Paulsen also had a pair of ace serves and 16 digs. Freshman Keimoney Lang of Iowa City led DMACC in digs with 26, freshman Carissa Smith of Monmouth, Ill., had 18 and sophomore Lacey Clark of Bettendorf and freshman Daiton Martin of Essex joined Tupper with nine digs apiece.

 

Tupper was named to the All-Tournament team.
