DMACC volleyball team takes three of four matches in Parkland Tournament

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team won three of four matches the Bears played in the Parkland Tournament September 21 and 22 at Champaign, Ill.

 

DMACC recorded a pair of 3-1 wins over Vincennes College (VC) and Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) on Sept. 21 and then defeated John A Logan College (JALC), 3-2, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Owens Community College (OCC) on Sept. 22.

 

DMACC ran its record to 12-5 for the season.

 

The Bears took a No. 18 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll into the tournament. LLCC is ranked 13th in NJCAA Division II and OCC is ranked second in NJCAA Division III.

 

Sophomore Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs had 15 kills and sophomores Peyton Parker of La Porte City and Lacey Clark of Bettendorf came away with nine apiece as DMACC defeated VC by set scores of 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21. The Bears hit .277 in the win, getting 47 kills from 84 attacks with 21 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Gill Tupper of Nevada had 27 assists in the win and freshman Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs came away with 17. Freshman Daiton Martin of Essex topped DMACC in digs with 28 and Paulsen added 14. Clark had seven blocks, including six block assists, and freshman Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison had five block assists.

 

DMACC got 10 kills from Paulsen and eight by Dilsaver in a 15-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-21 win over LLCC. Parker and freshman Tahj Haire of Rockford, Ill., had six kills apiece and Clark added five. The Bears got the win despite a .125 hitting percentage in which they got 38 kills from 104 attacks with 25 hitting errors.

 

Tupper and Schaa had 21 and 15 assists respectively and Martin came away with 28 digs with freshman Keimoney Lang getting of Iowa City getting 13 and Paulsen finishing with 12. Lang had two ace serves and Clark led the Bears in blocks with five, all block assists. Parker had four blocks, including three block assists, and Dilsaver also had four blocks, three of them solo blocks.

 

Dilsaver's 18 kills and 10 each by Paulsen and Parker lifted DMACC to a 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 16-25, 15-10 win over JALC. Haire added eight kills and Clark had five as DMACC hit .265 in the win, getting 57 kills from 117 attacks with 26 hitting errors.

 

Schaa led DMACC in assists with 28 and Tupper finished with 22. Martin came away with 27 digs, Paulsen and Lang had 18 apiece and Schaa added 11. Dilsaver had 13 blocks, including nine block assists, and freshman Kyra Ikeda of Fairfax had six block assists.

 

Parker had nine kills, Paulsen, Clark and freshman Kenzie Justice of North Liberty finished with eight apiece and Dilsaver had seven as the Bears dropped a 24-26, 25-27, 25-22, 23-25 decision to OCC in their final match of the tournament. DMACC hit .223, getting 44 kills from 130 attacks with 15 hitting errors.

 

Tupper and Schaa had 24 and 18 assists respectively and Martin had 21 digs with Paulsen getting 14 and Schaa finishing with 10. Dilsaver had four blocks, including three block assists, and Clark added three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team returns to Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play with a match against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Sept. 26 at Estherville. DMACC is 2-2 in the league. ILCC is 7-14 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
