Parker, Paulsen lead DMACC volleyball team past NIACC, 3-1

Sophomore Peyton Parker of La Porte City had 16 kills and sophomore Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs added 15 to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team to a 3-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) September 19 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked 18th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), hit .319 in winning by set scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17. They got 52 kills from 113 attacks with 16 hitting errors. Freshmen Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison and Tahj Haire of Rockford, Ill., contributed nine and eight kills respectively to the win.

 

With the win, DMACC improved to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Sophomore Gill Tupper of Nevada led the Bears in assists with 28 and freshman Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs added 23. Freshman Daiton Martin of Essex had a team-high 14 digs, Tupper came away with eight and Schaa and Paulsen finished with seven apiece. Dilsaver and Haire led DMACC in blocks with five apiece. Dilsaver had three block assists and Haire contributed two. Sophomore Lacey Clark of Bettendorf had four block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will play in the Parkland Tournament September 21 and 22 at Champaign, Ill. The Bears will face Vincennes University (VU) and Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) on Sept. 21 and will play John A Logan Community College (JALCC) and Owens Community College (OCC) on Sept. 22. LLCC is ranked 13th in NJCAA Division II and OCC is ranked second in NJCAA Division III.
