DMACC volleyball team sweeps two matches in Yellowjacket Volleyball Invite

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team improved to 8-1 for the season after sweeping two matches in the Yellowjacket Volleyball Invite September 7 at Rochester, Minn.

 

The Bears, ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, recorded back-to-back 3-0 decisions against Madison Community College (MCC) and Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) in their two matches. MCC came into the tournament ranked eighth in NJCAA Division III.

 

Freshman Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison and sophomore Peyton Parker of La Porte City had eight kills apiece and sophomore Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs contributed six kills as DMACC took a 25-8, 25-19, 26-24 decision from MCC. The Bears hit .228 in the win, getting 31 kills from 79 attacks with 13 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Gill Tupper of Nevada had 17 assists in the win with freshman Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs coming away with 11. Freshman Daiton Martin of Essex topped DMACC in digs with 17 and Paulsen finished with 11. Dilsaver led DMACC in blocks with three, including two solo blocks.

 

Paulsen's 13 kills and 11 from Parker lifted DMACC to a 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 win over RCTC. Dilsaver had seven kills in the win and freshman Tahj Haire of Rockford, Ill., came away with six. The Bears hit .330, getting 42 kills from 91 attacks with 12 hitting errors.

 

Tupper and Schaa had 19 and 16 assists respectively in the win and sophomore Lacey Clark of Bettendorf contributed a pair of ace serves. Martin again led the way in digs with 12 and Paulsen came away with 11. Freshman Keimoney Lang of Iowa City had seven digs and Tupper added six. Dilsaver led DMACC in blocks with five block assists and Clark had four blocks, including two block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Sept. 10 at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC has a 1-1 record in conference play.
